Gregory Borowski

B.A., B.Arch. (Hons), Architect AIBC, MRAIC, LEED AP

Gregory Borowski, Principal at Merrick Architecture Ltd., is an architect recognized for his exceptional creative vision and commitment to integrating architecture within broader social, urban, and natural contexts. Born in Britain, his early life was shaped by travel and exposure to seminal works of modern European architecture, guided by his father, who was also an architect. He completed his architectural studies at the University of British Columbia, where his thesis was honored with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Medal (RAIC Medal). His professional path includes international experience, notably collaborating with Aéroports de Paris on the new satellite terminal at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris (1999–2001). Since rejoining Merrick Architecture as Principal in 2001, Borowski has led the design team on a diverse portfolio of significant projects across Vancouver and internationally. Key projects include the Tate Downtown Tower, Howe Street Artist Studios, the Whistler Olympic Nordic Centre Daylodge, and Kayak at Vancouver’s Olympic Village, a LEED® Platinum-certified community. His collaboration on the 1568 Alberni project with Kengo Kuma & Associates further highlights his engagement in international design dialogue. Borowski has also dedicated time to shaping urban discourse by chairing the Urban Design panels in both Vancouver and at UBC. His practice has received multiple honors, including the RAIC Award for Outstanding Architectural Firm.
